Version
An immutable reference to one state of a resource, the sorted head Change CIDs joined with a dot or the single Snapshot CID.
Fetching schema…

Part of Stem. This page defines the version string.

A version is the sorted head Change CIDs joined with ., or the single Snapshot CID; it names one state of a resource for ever.

Rules

Identical to today's version string, including the ?v= URL form. A version of a Change graph is the set of heads; a version of a Snapshot resource is the Snapshot CID; a redirect with republish reports the target's version. Because a version is content-addressed it needs no space or node to be meaningful, but a reader needs the node reference to know which resource it belongs to. The empty version means latest and is never stored.

Today (HM24)

Unchanged; see Documents. Stem only adds that a Snapshot CID is a version too.
